Eastwell Church - Kent - 2011
Went out and enjoyed the last day of the Christmas holidays, and what a glorious sunny day it was.
Took a stroll in the Kent countryside, in what used to be part of the Eastwell Estate. The church was not the most impressive of sites, but the location was amazing. The Church has been derelict since the 1950's. I"m not sure why it closed the are 3 stories from what I can gather.
The boring one said the church suffered subsidence from the construction of the lake in the 40's. Second story is that it was bombed in WW2 (meh). My Fav is the estate was used by the MOD in WW2 for war games, in particular tank practice, the resulting vibrations and shockwaves caused extensive damage and it was closed.
The church was once filled with fine examples of sculpture, which are now in the V&A in London.
