This place showed as a childrens play area on Russian maps, It was actually a 400ft Soviet radar post designed to listen for in coming missiles from the west. The site is massive and not only operated as a radar station but housed all the families of the workers on site, hence being called Chernobyl 2. The name Russian Woodpecker comes from the fact that you could hear the operation of the site as a knocking sound on out of tune radios in the west
